How to live legally in the United States if you are a Canadian citizen?
My friend wants to visit and live with me here in the U.S. for a year or two and she and I have no idea what the process it needs to go through to the east. We want all this to be legal, of course, and it to be able to return to Canada and visit his people when she wants. Any advice? She has no criminal record or something, if it helps. Thank you.
As a Canadian citizen, your friend is automatically granted 6 month tourist visa to enter the United States. However, it will not be able to work the United States, for it to have enough money to support herself or have someone willing to support it. If she wants to stay longer, she may request a B1/B2 visa. This is probably the easiest visa to get her to allow him to live in the United States, but it will give evidence that he has enough money to support herself or someone else does. It will not be able to work on this visa. Application for other types of visas will be extremely difficult and I think it makes its entry as a visitor and not seek other types of visas.
