My naivete rose hedges get a big ball of fine roots die within a year, has caused a lot of water?
I live in the Mojave Desert of CA and water every day during the hot summer.
Sometimes plants do not receive basic roots strong because they need other nutrients. You may have already tried ... but when you plant them, prepare the hole with a soft blend of pink food and a material that retains water near the plant .... Miracle Grow is a mix of moisture which this you can make your own very inexpensively by mixing soil with vermiculite and acts like a sponge and absorbs little water and keeps it close roots. Similarly, when you plant, soak the roots of the rose in a bucket of water a day. Make a hole with several inches of gravel on the bottom then with soil / vermiculite mix to a small hill and plant the roots of roses on the mound, gently separating the roots and Fanning them on the mound, then fill around with soil mix. This method allows the roots spread around the base and not balloon. Its hard in a hot climate for growing plants sometimes ... I live in the desert area and in the summer if you miss one watering a day, sometimes your plants look like they will die! Thus, I understand, but the roses should do well and most are sun-loving, so just keep trying. Good luck.
