Write to the assessment of associations and ask them membership directories. Listed below are two of the largest appraisal organizations in the United States: American Society of Appraisers PO Box 17265 Washington, DC 20041 (800) 272-8258 Estimators Association of America 386 Park Ave South - 20th Floor New York, NY 10016 Phone: (212) 889-5404 Fax: (212) 889-5503 Website: Email www.appraisersassoc.org: aaa1@rcn.com ISA International Society of Appraisers 1131 SW 7th St # 105 Renton, WA 98055 Toll Free: (888) 472-4732 Fax: (206) 241-0436 Website: www.isa-appraisers.org Email: isa@isa-appraisers.org SPECIAL NOTE: The American Society of Appraisers believes only 25 percent of the 120,000 appraisers in the United States belongs to one of the major evaluation societies. These companies establish codes of ethics by which their members must adhere. In addition to a code of ethics, the evaluators were tested for their expertise. OR: Check the Yellow Pages telephone directory under "evaluators" from "Antics". WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND THE evaluator: Review Check their credentials belonging to an association of appreciation Request references Determine appraisal fees Request a written contract that describes the following: The scope of work The delivery date of the assessment of the costs assessment the objective nature of the evaluation results A statement that the appraiser can not act as an advocate or negotiator in disputes property expertise. Once you can establish the history of your pieces and they are authenticated, I do not think you have problems sell to one of the best auction houses above. The historical aspect of these kind of things can far exceed the normal costs and nominal ships obtained, unless of course they are also a major manufacturer, artist, etc. If you have time, you can also visit the local library and select several different books. There are several available and you will be able to compare information and prices. Go to the library in the antiques section. I often find books that help identify the song, style and manufacturer. Hope this helped. Cheers!
