Ideas for community service projects?

My daughters are American Heritage girls, ages 8 and 6. We have a meeting tonight and the need to discuss community service projects. We did Christmas carols for nursing homes and animal shelter, walking dogs, the last 3 years. I am willing to propose new ideas for this year. Does anyone have any fun, different ideas? Thank you!

Select a cause and a fun activity, and then have the girls get "sponsors". For example, you might decide to have a hula-hoop-Athon raise stuffed animals to donate. Each sponsor would be X amount per hoop, or simply make a general donation. At the same time, girls may accept donations of gently used stuffed animals (they are easy to get people to donate). These items can be donated to fire stations, police, EMS, or social services, emergency rooms of hospitals and / or shelters for abused or battered women and children. Perhaps meet with them and they have a friendly competition of boys against girls to see who can raise the most money for a particular project. old greeting cards can be collected, often, the next picture will be white on the back as the writing tends to be on the other portion. Ask the girls organize a garage sale, both with their own elements they no longer need / want and with the objects they collected through donations.
