What are the "Jewels of the water" made of?
Has anyone else heard of them? They are sold at craft stores in the same department that supplies floral design, as charges for vase arrangements of fresh flowers or silk. They start as tiny hard spheres, variety of colored exactly like the desiccant silicone found in shoe boxes (to keep them dry). When you leave them in water for about 1 hour each swells to about marble size and becomes a bright colored or sparkling orb. Then they are too soft and slippery. Most amusing. The package is about 2 centimeters in diameter and contains 200 or more. They come in clear, blue, green and far but they can be colored with food coloring in their expansion. The hot water makes them grow faster. They fall to the original size when they dry out in about a week! Salt destroys them completely. What the hell are they??
I just looked at the package I have. It simply refers to the product form of poly crystals. Nowhere on the packaging does it say what they are made. He said only that it is a polymer non-toxic water absorbing. I guess that's the best response we get.
