"Made in Japan" vs "Japan" on the old ....? sandstone-type dishes
I recently inherited several older dishes - mainly plates and bowls a member of the family of the deceased. Most of this is stamped - not a label Paper - JAPAN. I understand that there is a difference between "Made in Japan" and "Japan" pieces and two identification tags compared with stamped paper. Can you tell me during what periods of time "Japan" stamp was used on different products? We thanks in advance --
Country of origin labeling is a complex subject, and rules vary from one country to another and evolve over time. Most deal with the safety of food and cosmetics. Some are to keep track of taxes on manufactured goods. I came across a factory where they were slip casting, firing and glazing of coffee cups that said "Made in France 'on the bottom. When I asked how they could make cups in the U.S. that say "Made in France" on their buttocks, they said that the marking was due to the fact that the molds are made in France. Go figure ... PT Barnum said: "There's a sucker born every minute." Of course, he did not note that for every sucker, there are at least two crooks waiting to take advantage of them.
