American Salad Plate
Anyone have any idea on the origin of the "Red Plate Tradition?" I've searched everywhere with no luck. HELP!
The purpose of the tradition is to make members of the family feel special by having their dinner on the red plate. Usually comes in a set of plate, salad plat and mug. It's an American tradition that goes way back but I cannot find the original story that is to accompany the plates. They are usually given as a wedding gift.
I've never heard of it.
So I typed "red plate tradition" into Yahoo and a ton of sites came up. Seems to be a Catholic thing which would explain why I've never heard of it.
Most likely, it started with the plate company trying to make money... sort of like Valentine's Day and Hallmark.
